I'm pretty sure in Purley they have never seen anything like it before. Just after midday at around 1PM at the Shell garage in Purley (close to East Croydon Station), we found Six Policemen awaiting us, they wanted in their own words to be re-assured that we didn't attach ourselves to anything, climbed onto the roof of the building and of course we got exercised in our democratic right to a peaceful protest. When I walked in to the Shell garage with Roisin from Bromley who were to hand over the letter to the manager describing why we were here, we were escorted by a policeofficer,l passing the police officer who guarded the front door in the building as if we were entering the Ecuadorian Embassy. As we we came out all the volunteers, counting to around 30 had spread around starting the protest with banners reading Save the Arctic and Greenpeace and our very effective media team very already spreading the message and photos on Social media. Then first our Polar Bear arrived, who was then later joined by our Arctic Fox - as you might be able to imagine that didn't make the public less interested in us...
This was an impressive protest and Richard from the Croydon network said, ''this is by far the most people we had ever seen here thank you so much for coming''. We laid out a presence which resulted in that us coming to the people, the people came to us, including a constant beeping of horns of cars and trucks who passed by on the busy road.
Another major achievement, that apart from being 30 people, those were spread across nine different networks, adding on to that two photographers from 2 different local papers.
Finally being 30, all ages, all backgrounds simply act to the magnitude of this, it makes protests so much more powerful. See you all to another protest soon...
