Leytonites (that's what I assume people who live in Leyton are called, but I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong) got the schock of their lifetime on Saturday when walking down the high road spotted two Orangutans, five Greenpeace activists and one large ''KFC no good'' bucket spotted outside the KFC store.
We were five different networks gattered in Leyton to tell KFC to switch to a more sustainable packaging sourcing method as recent Greenpeace report showed that a large part of their packaging comes from deforestation in the Indonesian rainforest, the fastest deforestation in the world. In the last year massive barnds like Mattel, Lego and Disney have all dropped APP as supplier and we want KFC the same and we want the public who buys from KFC to know about this so they can put pressure on them.
One girl who was heading towards KFC and became aware of our campaign said: ''I were heading to KFC to buy my lunch, but thanks to you I'm not now''
We certainly caused a stir and it seemed like Leyton people have never seen anything like it, especially our two Orangutans proved quite a hit with cars stopping to figure out what was going on and of course picking up a leaflet.
The shop manager were little amused we were here, when we were inside the shop to let him know why we were and what we were doing, he couldn't get us out of the shop quick enough and when the Police later turned up he seemed very dissapointed that they wouldn't take any action against us and they explained to him we were in our perfectly good right to demonstrate outside their shop.
Generally people very shocked about KFC unethecal methods, and as the we were rounding of the day and starting to pack up one guys came back having obviously read the leaflet looking very seriously and asked ''Is this true?'' I then had to tell him that sadly it is, but several other companies have dropped APP as their suppliers and you can help us to tell KFC to do the same, he left assuring me to do just that.
To round things of I leave you with a debrifing motivation quote of Dave's ''One leaflet given out here is worth five given out in Central London''
Also check out Dave's cleverly put together video of the days action, enjoy!
