A new supporter signs up to #savethearctic

Chasing Ice is a new documentary about a photographer's heroic work charting the retreat of glaciers due to climate change - and his journey from climate change sceptic to campaigner. Given the subject matter, it made sense for us to go along to the screening at Harbour Lights cinema and take our campaign stall with us - plus the new-fangled iPad that allows people to sign up to the #savethearctic campaign on the spot. Hurrah! However, you never know how events like this will go - will anyone turn up to see the film? Will they be interested in our campaign?

Well, fortunately any worries were unfounded - as well as a good volunteer turnout the auditorium was pretty densely populated (not bad on a Sunday evening for a film which has hardly had a huge amount of publicity - yet), there was plenty of interest in what we're doing, and the iPad was kept nice and busy on its first outing (we're sharing one with the Portsmouth group so thanks to them for bringing it along). The film itself was amazing - a massive and technically challenging project driven by the photographer's need to visually capture climate change in action - and provide indisputable evidence (as if there wasn't enough, but not everyone gets climate modelling and so on) of our effects of increased CO2 levels. I hardly need convincing, but it was still engrossing - amazing imagery and great to see climate change portrayed in a way that shows what's happening right now, in a way that even the most vociferous climate change denier/fruit-loop should find hard to, well, deny. So, if you missed it and are free midweek daytime, there's another showing on Wednesday afternoon, and we will of course be there, plus there are showings all over the country. Enjoy!
