We raise environmental issues with a lot of companies. Some you hear little about - they listen to the evidence and act accordingly. Others need a bit more persuading but a campaign nudges them in the right direction. In this sort of area you can currently find Marks & Spencer who (like a growing list of other fashion chains and brands) have committed to phase out the use of toxic chemicals in its clothing. Nice one M&S - it is appreciated.
Others however can be more troublesome. You may remember not that many months ago when we had a campaign with all sorts of events and activities aimed at persuading KFC to stop sourcing packaging from APP - a truly terrible and destructive company (there are others, but APP is the worst) that trashes Asian rainforests for a quick megabuck. KFC were sadly unwilling to respond, let alone do the right thing and sever links with APP. They have made a statement on their website but it is unclear whether they intend to take action or are simply engaged in a bit of greenwash.
So, we have to assume that it's forest-trashing business-as-usual for KFC until they clearly show they have changed - to help them do the right thing, please email KFC's board of directors (overseen by CEO David Novak who has a very poor environmental record) - let's keep the pressure on them so they don't forget what they need to do - as you can see from our video, we do this in many ways...
