So it's now 2013 with all the new challenges and excitement that a new year brings; but first a look back to our last campaign day of 2012...
On December 15th we joined forces with our sister South London groups and pitched ourselves outside Shell's Battersea petrol station to complete our final Shell protest of the year. It was only my second campaign day with the group and I spent the first half hour of it inside a polar bear- definitely a new experience for me! It was I confess slightly disorientating at first as I could only see through my bear nostrils but ultimately I loved it and I hope to go bear again soon!
It was a good morning-despite occasional rains (our polar bear was sporting a rather nice pink umbrella at one point) and we did manage to get a number of signatures on our ipad. I think we succeeded in creating a strong Greenpeace presence that morning in Battersea as well as garnering more attention for our continued campaign against Shell.
For me though, the best part of the day was having the opportunity to meet a whole new bunch of Greenpeace faces, first in the South London networks and later when we joined our North London cohorts for a photo shoot and then (quite a lot of) drinks in Islington. It was a really positive experience to meet such a diverse group of individuals, from all walks of life, who had each joined Greenpeace for their own reasons. The time flew by, as the afternoon food and drinks melted into the evening. I felt thoroughly convinced that my next year with Greenpeace is going to be a good one. So happy new-year everyone, I can't wait to see what Greenpeace will do in 2013!
