Spotlight on Musician, publisher, football fan and activist
– Dave O’Carroll takes it all in his sleep deprived stride.
How did you first get involved?
I grew up in Dublin at a time when the Irish Sea was the most radioactive in the world as a result of pollution from Sellafield. Greenpeace’s opposition to the plant put the organisation on my radar. About 10 years ago, when I moved to Edinburgh I became aware of the local network and went along to see what was going on.
As an active supporter, what do you do?
I have been trying to establish an active network in Stirling for some time. It hasn’t been easy but I think the Airplot campaign will change all that. I’ve already picked up a couple of people as a result of it.
I still help out the Edinburgh network occasionally and I’m also a local media contact and a Regional Activity Coordinator.
Do you have time for other activities?
Just! I do a lot of work with Scotland Against New Coal which is opposing plans to extend the
commission of Longannet power station. I also sing and play guitar in a rock band, AUTOSAFARI, as
well as holding down a job in publishing and as many trips to Anfield [Anfield is Liverpool’s football stadium, for un-footy-minded folk] as I can fit in.
I don’t sleep much.
And what’s next?
More of the same, hopefully, with some sleep thrown in for good measure.
