The Arctic needs saving from industrial exploitation, who you gonna call?
Every year Farmer Phil has a music festival in the rolling Shropshire hills, maybe this is where we will find the saviour of the North Pole.
A light drizzle confirmed that it was summer and so we were not hopeful of finding Santa Claus, however there were some strangely dressed campers and loads of goodwill so maybe we could find what we were looking for – Arctic Defenders.
After setting up our base camp, we busily asked everyone passing by and very soon we had people signing their names on Aurora’s ribbon.
We needed more, lots more, so Farmer Phil himself led us to the back of the main stage so we could dash on inbetween acts to introduce the audience to our friendly Polar bear (who had recently gained an inappropriate nickname).
After our moment on stage, we followed the bear (nickname hint there) back to our tent where he continued to frolic with passer-bys, dance to “Ferocious Dog” and attract many more Super-heroes, or Arctic Defenders as we prefer to call them.
A Greenpeace presence at festivals large and small all around the country is really helping to spread the word about the dangers oil companies like Shell are posing to this fragile environment and pulling people together to make a stand against fossil fuelled greed.
We nearly didn’t make it to Farmer Phils but some last minute organising turned it into a successful and fun few days. We’re looking to expand our geographical area into the wilds of Wales and need more volunteers and activists to join us for occasional activities, if you are in Telford and Wrekin, Shrophire or even mid Powys and willing to help, please join our online group and drop us a line.
