January meeting summary

Hi All,

On Wednesday we had our first meeting of the year at the Old George pub in Newcastle. Lots of people sent apologies (seems like we are all getting struck with darned bugs) but we did have two new members attending who are Chris and Chris! so welcome to those first of all. We discussed the 3 main campaign features for Greenpeace in the first part of this year which will be Tar Sands, Airplot and Trident. We then discussed training on 6th Feb. We have about 12 people down for it so if anyone else wants to come along then please give me your name so i have a good estimate of numbers.

As the members of our group come from all over the Tyne and Wear area we then discussed the possibility of having the meeting at different venues around the area as well as just in Newcastle. This was agreed by all and we have chosen Sunderland, South Shields, Newcastle and North Tyneside as the 4 main areas that we cover so chris, Chris, Diane and Fiona are searching for free venues in those areas so we can alternate between them. It was also decided as we have already had numerous airplot stalls in Newcastle that we would take it across the area so we have planned a stall for Sunderland on 16th Feb so that anyone who wishes so after doing the training the week beforehand can get straight into it with a bit of practise in Sunderland city centre. We have also agreed Durham City centre for the end of Feb too with more details about locations etc as we figure them out.

Anyone with any suggestion for meeting space or stall locations please post a comment after this blog as all ideas are welcome.

We also discussed the possibility of showing the film 'a time comes' jointly with the South of Tyne Transition Network at a venue in South Tyneside within the next couple of months. More details to follow as they are arranged.
