Friday 24 February and three members of Tynedale Greenpeace were courteously received at the local, very busy Shell station in Hexham. Shell do not own this garage, Dale, but it has supplied them for at least the last 2 years. The garage owner/manager was helping a tanker offload when we arrived, and she too understood our action. Working on the pavement outside the forecourt, the three of us, Debbie,June and Elaine were able to pass on at least 25 leaflets and engage recipients in discussion. Universally, people were unaware of Shell's plans to drill in the Artic this year. Many people were concerned and understood the potential irrevocable damage this could cause. As ever, some people did their best to avoid even so much as a leaflet, one or two thought any price was worth paying for oil and a few felt that nothing would make a difference to which we responded with details of previous Greenpeace successes! We hope our campaigning will add to this important campaign.
