Local MP meets local scruff

There has been much fun with the Waltham Forest Greenpeace network recently.

First a couple of hardy souls braved the Belgian police by joining a Europe-wide action at the European Business Summit. Businesses who were opposed to setting a Europe-wide target of reducing their emissions by 30% were named, shamed and (ever so politely) stopped from entering. Fun, games, and waffles were had by all.

The fruits of our local campaigning became apparent when we met with local MP Stella Creasy (pictured) to hand over some 140 cards which were signed by Walthamstow constituents asking that she use her vote on the forthcoming Energy Billl to ensure it is as green as possible.

As a member of the committee scrutinising the Finance Bill, she also pledged to add her name to an amendment to the bill asking that a review be set up to ensure it doesn't provide a back-door subsidy to the nuclear industry.

This all came about thanks to the hard work of our campaigners and the Greenpeace political lobbying network of volunteers.

Our last meeting ran on late into the night and featured live performances from yours truly (only at Waltham Forest do you get live music with your meeting).

Since then we have noticed a spate of ads relating to Barbie's rainforest destruction popping up around the place, not to mention numerous plastic manifestations of the tree thrasher herself in various places. Whatever could it all mean?
