Want to protect the planet but have no head for heights? At Greenpeace we're a team, and behind each incredible hero are hundreds of unsung heroes. Could you be one of them?
Unless you live under a rock, you'll have heard that on Thursday morning six Greenpeace activists scaled The Shard to protest against Shell's plans to drill in the Arctic. Whenever I see actions like these it always inspires me to be bolder, braver and do more. Yet as much as I love Greenpeace I wouldn't even climb a step ladder for them.
Fortunately for me it's not necessary to be a climber, sailor or other adventurer to be part of this global movement changing the world. From asking members of the public to sign up to the Save the Arctic campaign to blogging and tweeting to share the message, there are lots of ways to volunteer.
And now the women are back on terra firma, these volunteers will ensure the climbers' brave message is not forgotten. We'll be out on the streets all summer talking to people about why Shell must stop their destructive plans to drill in the Arctic. Why not come and join us?
So whether a climber, mischief maker, blogger, tweeter, fundraiser or street campaigner we all have something to contribute. In the words of Shard climber, Victoria Henry:
"I hope that [our climb] can encourage anyone hesitating about taking action - no matter what scale - to take that step today."
So if you're feeling inspired by the Shard climbers come along to our monthly meet-up at the Rose & Crown on Hoe Street. We get together for a drink and a chat from 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of every month.
And remember you can join our Facebook group for all the latest news, views and chat on Greenpeace in Waltham Forest.
