Earlier this year Richard told me about how he wanted to make the best of this year just in case the Mayans were right and the world would indeed end in 2012. Now moving to Asia might sound a bit drastic but let’s all keep our fingers crossed that Richard will have many great adventures in his new life in Asia!
When I first joined Greenpeace a bit over two years ago the greatest things about it were the new people I met. Inspiring ladies and gentlemen from all parts of the world who are all united in their passion for the environment and their desire to achieve change.Sadly, London is a fast paced city, Greenpeacers come and go and I’ve had to say good-bye to many a friend along the way.
Right from the start, one name that kept on coming up was ”Richard Martin”. Whenever there seemed to be a technical issue or a problem we couldn’t solve we were referred to this mysterious name: “Email Richard, he can help you” or “WRTE A BLOG, Richard can give you tips”.
I have met Richard a few times over the last years, he was there when I had my first lobbying experience, encouraged me to write my first blog when the Rainbow Warrior came to town and has helped me out countless times since I started coordinating the West London network this year. Many members of the West London group have come and gone and I am sure I speak for all when I say he will be dearly missed!
We wish you all the best for the great adventure ahead of you (with or without real ale) and I am sure we will be reading your blogs from Asia very soon. Greenpeace UK's loss in Greenpeace Asia’s gain and I am sure you will do great things for the planet over there!
See you for a pint tonight!
