Hammersmith are not giving Nestle a Break

Posted by NicolaCutcher - 21 April 2010 at 10:06pm - Comments

We were in Hammersmith on Saturday 10th April talking to people about Nestle's refusal to source their palm oil sustainably.  Instead the palm oil that they use in their chocolates drives deforestation, illegal logging and is causing the Orang-utan to lose its habitat and home.  Greenpeace have made their own version of the Nestle Kit Kat advert to illustrate how stark that relationship really is - between eating Nestle chocolate and hacking down the rainforest.  What we-re saying to Nestle is GIVE THE ORANG-UTAN A BREAK.

We were getting people in Hammersmith to sign our objection form which we are sending to Nestle.  Targeting a corporation and its branding and products has proved a very successful way to get our message heard and is a PR disaster for them!  Taking this message to the high streets, while it has already gone viral online and using social media, is the logical next step of showing Nestle that we're serious and good people are disgusted to hear Nestle's indefensible and immoral actions.

One passing man was Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush candidate Andy Slaughter.  Andy signed up to show support for Greenpeace's campaign and wrote to Nestle to register his disapproval of the company's actions.  It's Andy that you can see signing up on our stall in the photograph.  Andy also took a few photos with us.  He wouldn't pose for a photo behind our mock-up Nestle advert about the Orang-utans but we appreciated him stopping to support the campaign.

Now we just need Andy to convince his party to include Trident in the Strategic Defence Review....
