Anyone that went outside last Saturday will agree with me when I say it was definitely the coldest day of the year so far. Naturally, we had picked exactly this day for some good old outdoor street campaigning!
We braved the freezing temperatures, blizzard-like winds (which knocked our table over a few times!) and persistant rain showers and set out to the South Bank to spread the word about our ongoing Save the Arctic campaign. And how things have changed since we did our first day of this campaign on a surprisingly sunny June afternoon earlier this year! Suddenly everybody wanted to wear the polar bear costume to keep cosy and warm.
Now, street campaigning can be challenging even for the most seasoned activist, but under these wintry conditions you have to work extra hard to keep spirits high.
Here are a few photo/video suggestions how this can be achieved:
- Polar bear themed apparel. A fashionable (?) polar bear hat that has attached gloves resembling paws!
- Hug a group of Canadian tourists.
- Get the steel drums out and dance!
After a long day of campaigning and photo opportunities we truly deserved a cup of hot tea and a nice pint in the pub afterwards.
Thank you everyone who came along despite the uninviting weather and who helped sign up some Arctic Defenders to our scroll!
