What a great time I had at the London Green Fair this weekend!
It was my first time at the fair (formerly Camden Green Fair) and I was proud to be volunteering with Greenpeace at such a great event. The Camden group had organised the stall and people from different networks all over London came to help out. It’s always great to meet fellow Greenpeacers at special events like this and it makes campaigning so much more enjoyable.
We had the Stop Shell #Save the Arctic campaign on our agenda for this day and were busy collecting signatures for our petition. We are demanding that Shell CEO Peter Voser scraps his reckless plans of drilling for oil in the pristine environment of the Arctic! An oil spill would have disastrous consequences as it would be almost impossible to clean up in the harsh conditions of the Arctic. People were generally very interested and the sunny weather drew many supporters to our stall.
In the afternoon there was a film screening of “The Greenpeace Story” followed by a Q&A with some activists and volunteers. Emily Hall, who was one of the Kingsnorth climbers, joined Steve and John on the panel and Jo from Camden chaired the session. Many interesting and some tricky questions were brought up and were answered patiently and passionately by the panel.
All in all the whole day was a great success and I will definitely be returning to the London Green Fair next year! Thanks Camden Greenpeace for organising and for having me there!
