At last the sun shone down upon us (Greenpeace) so called 'Activists' media term for us campaign/supporter's, as always a good turn out ensued and true to form The Powers that be represented by London's finest The Metropolitan police made their presence felt and kept a close eye on us at all times, needless to say they easily outnumbered us, understandable I suppose given our spectacularly successful closure of Shell Garages here in London and Edinburgh, we started at Shell's Garage in Queensway located along the Bayswater road with Hyde Park across the road, a few new faces appeared and seems spurred by recent events, they ranged from a very first timer all the way from Hampstead to a near local from Shepherds Bush but all very enthusiastic, bodes well for the future, the response from our handing out leaflets was either alloufness to mild enthusiasm to all out agreement with our cause/objective, after about one and a half hours we moved on to our next destination the Shell Garage in Tadema Street just down from the Kings Road, again our friends from The Met accompanied us but remained in their vehicle, we received a reasonably enthusiastic response from the motorists and the Garage personnel, our next Port of call was just off the Brompton Road, again the boys in blue gathered nearby but by now were aware we had no other intent other than hand out information to the motorist in the form of leaflets highlighting Shell's unseemly behaviour, however it was clear on this occasion that the good will extended to us at Queensway and to a lesser extent at Tadema road had all but turned into a mood of hostility and we were left in no doubt as we approached the entrance to their shop, displayed on the window was a notice saying that a Court Order had been issued on behalf of Shell stating that 'Greenpeace Activists were not welcome onto their forecourt, we therefore remained at the forecourt's edge handing out leaflets to motorists the mood was edgy to say the least, clearly here at least they have been rattled, and finally we departed for our penultimate destination 'Buckingham Palace' or as near as we could get without getting suspected of something, we along with other groups assembled on the Victoria Monument for a photo opportunity and a pleasant one it was, thus ending our very but rewarding day, those who wished went along to a nearby Pub for a refreshing brew no doubt and the rest of us departed for home, job done!
