Planting Apple Trees

Javascript is required to view this map.
Lampton Park, Hounslow, Lampton Road, London, United Kingdom
14 November, 2009 - 11:00 - 12:00

IMPORTANT! Event organisers should arrive earlier at 10am. Everyone else at 11am.

We will be planting a tree in Lampton Park in Hounslow, by the Civic Centre. PPC's Mary MacLeod,  Andrew Dakers and John Hunt will be attending the tree planting ceremony. The tree will be twinned with the trees being planted on the 'Airplot', which is on the land where the Govt intend to build the third runway.

The Ceremony

Ollie will make a short introductory speech explaining what Airplot is all about. Then Mary MacLeod, Andrew Dakers and John Hunt will each be invited to say a few words and then together plant the tree!! Anabel is providing the tree, and Paul is providing the spade. The local press will take some snappy snaps. Then celebratory toffee apples or equivalent sweet delicacy will be circulated. People will also be invited to write their messages of support on the 'Apple Tree of Thoughts' that Rebecca and Saad are kindly making. Finally we can sign up any new airplotters, chatter, and disperse! Done deal.

Why we are doing this

We say 'No third runway' and believe in choosing a low-carbon future. The trees represent sustainability for the future. They are also symbolic of the area in Sipson which is home to the discovery of the Cox apple. The idea is to drum up some publicity and good-feeling around the event and demonstrate how a low-carbon future could actually be a happier one - more connected to reality and the communities in which we live. Lampton park itself is under the Heathrow flight path and the people of Hounslow overwhelmingly oppose the third runway.

Directions & Detailed Map

Here is a link to a map showing the precise tree-planting spot, along with route from Hounslow Central underground station.

Exit the station, cross over the road and turn right, along Lampton Rd. Take next left (Clovelly Road, Civic Centre) and follow the path straight into the park. The spot for the tree is on the right, quite near the buildings.
