5 apple trees planted in about two hours, pretty good if you ask me. Just as the river Severn was bursting its' banks in the park, we, about fifteen of us, turned up and planted five apple trees in a lovely spot in Gheluvelt Park. The rising river was a really powerful back drop to our work, remindnig us why we were there, as the park benches became more and more isolated as the morning progressed. It was great to see so many people united behind the one campaign, five different local groups represnted all chipping or rather digging in. A local resident who had read about the planting in the Friends of Gheluvelt Park newsletter came along with his Dog and was a fantastic addition. He fully supported the campaign and really welcomed the edition to his local park. We had two other members who havent made the group before come along as well, and we hope to see them again. The two election candidates showed real support for the campiagn which from one was surprising and it gives us good opportunity for the future to go back to them and remind of the pledges they gave on Saturday. Those trees will be there for a long time and in a couple of years, I'll race all of Ye to get the first cookers of 'em. The day was a great success, both in terms of uniting green groups in Worcester, a good outing for us, and more importantly raising the awareness of the campaign in Worcester and continuing to challenge the Government over it's blindness to the facts of our adversitry.
