Aurora at the start of the Parade

I didnt imagine she would be, so realistic. Ok she clearly not a polar bear, but the walk, the animated face and the RoarWhat a fantastic event. Aurora the Polar Bear was just amazing. I mean I expected it to look great but not awesome. Walking through the streets of London to outside the Shell Headquarters, there was a brilliant atmosphere with many people supporting Greenpeace’s work in trying to Save the Arctic. There was something in the air, with around 3000 people there, and as we came to the Shell building it was a large gathering, roaring their desire to see the Arctic protected. Ginny and I walked with Aurora asking people to join the campaign, many already had.Ginny was raising money through donations, she had a good day. Rob and Sally were the heroes of the day. They walked alongside the bear all the way to the Shell building, from south of Lambeth and back again. Making sure people didn’t get crushed under her moving feet. The event included “Ice Rides” from the suburbs of London into the centre and the parade from beside the Houses of Parliament to by the London Eye. John Sauven, The Greenpeace UK Director, brought the event to a close with an passionate plea for people to take action to protect the Arctic. All of us had an absolutely cracking day, which ended with a mass trespass onto Shell buidling, writing messages in chalk on the pathway in front and on the building itself, watched by the Police. Aurora is now on her way to Germany and then beyond as these events go international. The “collective power” atmosphere and generally positive feeling of the day was rocked on its feet by the event in Russia. Support our Activists now, please.www.greenpeace.org.uk
