Following lots of planning and anticipation all we needed was some good weather and fortunately, last Saturday the 6th of April, the sun was shining and the skies were blue as we set up our cake stall in York city centre.
After an inordinate amount of time (around 45 mins, with a team of 7!!) we finally managed to construct the gazebo......interpreted as a clear sign it was going to be a successful day. Over the next half hour the cakes took their place on the table; an elaborate victoria sponge, a vegan chocolate cake, carrot and orange, banana and walnut, gingerbread buns, German apple cake, chocolate brownies and many more! As cake numbers increased, so did the number of interested passers by and welcome donations pursued.
Paula bear was there to entertain and pose for photos, the majority of which included people holding the 'I ♥ Arctic' speech bubbles in support of the campaign to protect the habitat of the polar bear.
The cake sale went down a treat with the crowds in York on Saturday and thanks to those who exchanged a donation for a cake, funds raised reached £150.60. The money will go towards the new Greenpeace Pod which will help with the campaign to Save the Arctic and other campaigns in the future (follow the link for more information: http://pod.greenpeace.org.uk ).
Thanks again to all of those who baked for the stall and made the fundraiser possible, and thanks to the public who enjoyed our cakes!
