So this isn't Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina!

In the summer of 2011 Greenpeace turned their climate change campaign focus to one of the most influential car manufacturers in the world.  VW, who like to be portrayed as a caring company, were doing the contrary with their lobbying to weaken important climate change targets within Europe.

Parodying their famous Star Wars themed advertising (which VW launched at Superbowl) Greenpeace brought in the stormtroopers to persuade VW to move away from the Darkside.  Here in York we were graced by the presence of one of the ‘troopers, who engaged with the citizens of York - and they were vocal in their  support of the Greenpeace campaign.  We have a video from that day which is linked in this blog post.

We also went to a VW showroom in nearby Leeds - some of the footage can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8NaoLXMi_o

And now for news just in – VW have announced that they will turn away from the Darkside and meet stronger European CO2 reduction targets.

So it’s now maybe time for a little celebration in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina?  Just watch out for those Bounty Hunters and space pirates.
