John says "Aurora is Coming".

Well OK it's not the real John Lennon, but here at Greenpeace Yorkshire South we do have the very next thing, our own lookalike. Phil Daly AKA John Lennon will be campaigning alongside members of the Yorkshire South group as usual at a Shell Station in Sheffield on Sunday 15th September. Why then? Well it may be announced by then what the minimum Arctic sea ice level is and Greenpeace are expecting the lowest levels ever recorded. Lowering levels of sea ice is allowing oil companies to look with greedy eyes at the Arctic, worst amongst these are Shell and Gazprom who are intending to drill in the Russian Arctic in 2014. Greenpeace ships are in the Russian Arctic now ready to bear witness to any potential spillage which, if it should happen would be impossible to clean up especially in an Arctic winter. This would be devestating to the indigenous peoples, wildlife and the unique Arctic environment.

Greenpeace is hoping that the Arctic will be turned into a Global Sanctuary which will prevent any one nation or company from drilling in the Arctic. If you want to add your name to the list of people supporting this aim please visit #aurora on Twitter or the website Save the Arctic.org or go to Greenpeace UK to sign up there.
