On a fine sunny day in Sheffield last Saturday (15th September 2012) i along with many other yorkshiresouth Greenpeace activists took to the streets to ask the public to fill in a card and send a message to Nick Clegg, that message was a simple one... STOP OSBORNE'S DASH FOR GAS.
Over 230 cards were collected in a short period of time to be sent to Nick Clegg so that he and the Liberal Demorcrats as a whole keep the green promises they made before the last general election. They promised to nurture green growth and tackle climate change. Ed Davey the Liberal Democrat who runs the department of Energy and Climate change has a golden oportunity to deliver a green energy future, but the coalition he is part of is going in the wrong direction.
George Osborne is preventing MP's from making good on their pre election promises. Instead of supporting green businesses, he wants to slash support for renewable energy. He is obsessively making a dash for gas, a dirty and polluting energy, that he would like the uk to be hooked on and force fuel bills higher for all of the uk's households.
By making a dash for gas Osborne cannot fulfil a binding commitment to reducing the uk's carbon emissions, a fact his own climate change comitee reported to him only last week. Ed Davey and his party must stand up to Osborne and commit to a cleaner energy future that would create thousands of new green employment oportunities, helping to bring the uk out of recession and cut carbon emissions too, that is a future worth looking forward to, instead of going back to the dirty and polluting energy Osborne wants the uk to commit to.
The people in Sheffield sent a message to Nick Clegg and now he MUST STOP OSBORNE.
