In a story reported in The Mail and The Telegraph - and now the basis for a national campaign - the Tax Payers alliance claimed that gas bills were set to rise by just as much as electricity bills due to government subsidies for green energy. BBC: Cuadrilla applies for more fracking permits
Shale gas company Cuadrilla is to apply for planning consent to carry out more test drilling in Lancashire.It intends to apply for planning consent to hydraulically fracture and test the shale at its existing exploration well at Grange Hill. Cuadrilla also hopes over time to apply for consent to carry out test drilling gas flow at up to six new Fylde sites.(That is just copied from the BBC - ed)
Bizgreen: RWE halts biomass plant
Power giant RWE has halted the conversion of it's Tilbury power plant to biomass with the likely loss of 220 jobs. The company blamed policy uncertainty for the move, which is likely to make it more difficult for the government to meet it's renewable energy targets.

The former French energy and environment minister has claimed that she was fired because of her backing for a ban on shale and plans to scale down France's reliance on nuclear power.
WSJ: Shell reports largest Nigeria spill this year
2,699 barrels of oil were spilt on a pipeline operated by the firm's joint venture partners in Nigeria. The company claimed the damage was reduced as much of the oil burned away.
