The chief executive of energy utility EDF has said he expects to decide on whether to go ahead with Hinkley 'by the end of the year'.

Speaking to Le Monde Henri Proglio also claimed the company had secured a deal with the British government to guarantee 65% of the project's debt and confirmed that contracts would last 35 years.

But no deal had yet been reached on the price of power.

The news follows the announcement of a £10bn loan guarantee facility for nuclear power. In the interview Mr Proglio promised France would continue to enjoy some of the lowest electricity costs in Europe.
