Effects of Green Deal debated
A new government survey shows only eight percent of households are using
Green Deal finance while half of households assessed have already
installed energy efficiency measures, or are likely to; an encourage
statistic for governmnet. However, Damian Carrington of the Guardian argues the Deal is in danger of becoming a middle class subsidy. The final version is set to be released on Thursday.
Scottish government rejects public inquiry
Following the collapse of two major coal mining firms and fears that
taxpayers were footing the bill to clean up old mines, the Scottish
Opencast Communities Alliance called for an inquiry into the opencast
industry. However, the Scottish government said there was no need for an
inquiry on restoration and a taskforce is set to discuss the issue as
of July 1.

US launches investigation into oil price fixing
The United States joins the inquring into oil price fixing today as it
launches an investigation into allegations that oil companies and
traders had rigged the market. This comes after last month's raid of
Shell, BP, and Statoil's offices by anti-trust officials from Brussels.

Scientists suggest that leaky shale gas wells are to blame for the
elevated level of methane, ethane, and propane gases found in
Pennsylvania's drinking water.
US power company to convert coal mines
NRG Energy Inc. says it is looking to see whether its coal plants can be
refueld or repowered with natural gas so as to meet environmental
regulations.
