Our activists arrested after boarding Cairn's arctic rig

Today our mission to protect the Arctic moves from the frozen seas of Greenland into the courts of Amsterdam and Greenland.

After our first occupation of its oil rig at the beginning of last week Cairn filed for an injunction with the courts in Amsterdam. The injunction is aimed at preventing us taking any further action to stop drilling in the Arctic. It would mean we’d be fined two million euros for every day any future protest stops drilling on the company’s Arctic oil rigs.

Paula blocking the entrance to Cairn's HQ

This morning Paula Bear swung into action as a Greenpeace activist. While our ships are confronting Cairn Energy's oil rig in the Arctic, she’s blocking the entrance to the wildcat drillers' headquarters in Edinburgh.

Horrified that Cairn Energy are drilling for oil in the Arctic, Paula’s rage was tipped over the edge when she learned that Cairn won’t even make their oil spill response plan public.

Nice video footage just in of today's action to attach a survival pod to the anchor chain of Chevron's drilling ship, the Stena Carron.

Now the pod is successfully attached it will make life a bit easier for the activists aboard, enabling them to stay in position far longer than the previous portaledge.

Greenpeace is in Shetland to stop dangerous deep water drilling in UK waters, which resulted in the Gulf oil disaster earlier in the year. Greenpeace campaigner Leila is on hand to tell you more...

Pod people latch on in phase two of drilling ship action

Attaching our pod to the Stena Carron

We've stepped up our action in the waters off Shetland where - in addition to climbers Victor and Anais on the anchor chain of the Stena Carron – a custom-built survival pod has been brought into play. Two metres in diameter and weighing half a tonne, it's also been attached to the anchor chain of the Chevron-operated drilling ship which was due to leave for the Lagavulin oil field - but now isn't going anywhere.

Slideshow of the latest images from the action

It’s been a hectic day - but a successful one.

We heard at our ship’s briefing this morning at 0800 that our friends were going to attempt to get on Chevron’s massive Stena Carron rig in the next couple of hours and stop it from moving.

How we shut down five BP stations and fell in love with a hybrid

It was a very early start this morning. I'm not much of a morning person and the adrenaline was pumping, so I was a bit worried about driving through central London my nerves feeling fuzzy and frazzled. But as I motored through the quiet streets of London at 5am in silence behind the wheel of a Toyota Prius I started to feel better. Because I have to admit, I really like driving.

I grew up in North America and it wasn't summer without a good road trip. I have eco-guilt about it, but I love the freedom, covering huge distances, being able to stop anytime and anywhere and enjoy the view or a bit of local culture. But I don't own a car - I don't need one in the city, and I don't want one because of the resources they eat up and the climate impacts. Well, until now.
