Digital Mobilisation Lab Analyst

Designed to capitalize on Greenpeace’s fearless embrace of the experimental, the Digital Mobilisation Lab provides the global organization and its allies a dynamic, forward-looking space to envision, test, and roll out creative new means of inspiring larger networks of leaders and people around the world to break through and win on threats to people and the planet. 

Purpose of the Position:

The Digital Mobilisation Lab’s Analyst will assist in the analysis and optimization of Greenpeace’s digital mobilisation and supporter engagement efforts across our campaigns globally. This includes web, email, online and offline volunteering, advertising, and social media – all the ways in which we interact with members and the public. The Analyst will support global staff in efforts to ensure that our mobilisation work is based on rigorous testing rather than best guesses. 

The preferred location for this position is Washington DC, however this position can be located any where in the world where there is a Greenpeace office. 

Major Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff across departments (digital, communications, campaigns, etc) to design tests that reveal best practices for engaging individuals in Greenpeace’s work – e.g. email opens, clicks, website conversions, actions, donations, etc.
  • Coordinate with teams and departments to analyze the life-cycle, journeys, and pathways of supporters and individuals engaged in Greenpeace campaigns
  • Train staff and colleagues in above-listed activities to build capacity across the global organization – e.g. one-on-one coaching, live events
  • Analyze, summarize and present experiment conclusions in a manner accessible to non-technical decisionmakers
  • Work with offices globally to develop practices for effectively monitoring and improving the quality of our data hygiene
  • Work with staff and partners on creative campaign development and execution, including tracking, testing and optimizing engagement of new campaign activists
  • Use Greenpeace’s content management and constituent relationship management systems (CMS, CRM) to develop segmented lists, track and report results, target emails, and identify trends
  • Travel to organize, coordinate, or participate in training events, strategy sessions, meetings, or conferences
  • Pull regular performance data for internal clients from various sources (Google Analytics, third party web analytics and CRMs, advertising platforms)
  • Assist with or oversee configuration of reporting platforms to report accurate and robust performance data
  • Consolidate data from multiple sources into single performance dashboards
  • Collaborate with Web Analysts to develop analyses and strategic campaign recommendations based on performance data

Technical Competency/Expertise:

  • 2-3 years of experience in online organizing or campaigning preferred; Background in advocacy or political campaign organizing a plus
  • Strong data analytics skills with in-depth knowledge of how to track, measure, and optimize email and advocacy programs for new activists
  • Experience working with web traffic data and/or email MTA logs
  • Facility with unix commandline tools and Perl/Java/other programming
  • approaches for manipulating large text-based datasets
  • Strong SQL query-writing skills
  • Familiarity with statistical or data analytics tools like R, SPSS, JMP a plus
  • Experience with Google Analytics preferred
