Choose the right biofuel or the orang-utan gets it - now on video

Last month we launched a campaign for rigorous controls on biofuels because while biofuels could make a small contribution in the battle against climate change, it could in fact do more harm than good.

If rainforests are cut down to make way to grow 'green fuels', it will not only destroy homes for animals like the orang-utans, it will also be catastrophic for the climate releasing more greenhouse gases by destroying forests than we will save using biofuels.

More than 2800 of you sent letters to the transport minister, Stephen Ladyman, as part of the government's consultation on biofuels- we've heard they received somewhere in the region of 6000 responses in total, so you've made up nearly half of them! It's clearly had an impact at the Department of Trade and Industry because they asked to meet with representatives from Greenpeace and other members of the biofuels coalition to talk things through. And now the original campaign ad has gone through a magical transformation to video, which you can see above.

It's not too late for you to help, first you can send this video on to a friend.

If you have a car, it should be the most efficient model available. You could also use it less, and start cycling or walking more. If you've done all of that, there's still something you can do: the government's consultation has closed but you can still let them know what you think. Send an email to the transport minister, Stephen Ladyman, telling him that we need for rigorous controls on biofuels. Otherwise the green dream really will become a nightmare.
