No new oil - Greenpeace fights to stop climate change

Greenpeace is taking all steps necessary to delay, disrupt and stop the threat governments and oil companies pose to the climate.

In the Atlantic Frontier to the West of Britain and in Alaska, Greenpeace continues to take direct action to stop oil wells being drilled and survey work taking place.

Greenpeace is taking the UK Government to court in a case that could make all future oil licensing illegal in the Atlantic Frontier until the Government properly conserves the area's large whales and other threatened wildlife. This has already delayed the drilling of a number of wells planned for this year.

Greenpeace argues that future oil licensing by the Government is illegal until stringent conservation measures are put in place for the whales, dolphins and rare coral reefs of the Atlantic Frontier under the European Habitats Directive.

In Alaska, legal action by Greenpeace to challenge the 'permitting' process has helped to delay the BP Amoco's Northstar oil expansion that presents a real risk of oil spills under the ice as well as eventual climate change damage.
