The Red Light District goes green

A volunteer in Amsterdam

Our colleagues in the Netherlands who alerted us to the dangers of toxic sex toys are now tackling the Red Light District in Amsterdam, and making energy efficiency sexier than ever.

They've replaced the inefficient red light bulbs lighting up six windows in the famous district with energy efficient green light bulbs. The Greenpeace volunteers are also canvassing entrepreneurs in other parts of the neighbourhood asking them to use energy efficient light bulbs.

The guerilla bulb replacement is part of a project called "Heir" (Here in Dutch) to promote the use of 1 million extra energy efficient light bulbs in the Netherlands. Next stop the Ajax football stadium?!

This is really great of a city to promote a project on such a large scale to help conserve energy. For a country to be so laid back with their soft drug laws and sex law, and show care for the environment I think every country in the world can learn something from them. Drugs and sex aren't as bad as people want you to believe and both should be legal.

Toxic Sextoys

OK, I realise this might not be a particularly environmentally friendly comment but I was really shocked to find the reference to toxic sextoys on the Greenpeace website. I've been looking into buying a sextoy off the internet and a friend (who is a member of greenpeace) warned of the potential dangers. Originally I was going to buy a rubber sextoy but having read about the toxic dangers I've now decided to buy a glass dildo from Aphrodite Gifts. Can anyone tell me if these glass dildos are safe from the dangers of toxic poisoning??
