James Nesbitt performing in front of the Banksy piece in 2002

Interesting to see that a fancy auction house in London is selling an original Banksy image that the great man designed for us, which featured in our forest campaign back in 2002.

The Times are reporting (pay wall warning), as well as the Daily Mail,  that we ran a mile when Disney roared its disapproval and claimed breach of copyright. Not true. As the picture above proves, we used the image in all sorts of places (the image above shows James Nesbitt performing comedy in front of it) and only withdrew after the campaign had run its natural course.

It’s a little controversial, for sure, but we think that Mowgli, Baloo and even Shere Khan would have been happy for their picture to help raise awareness of rainforest destruction. They would have been amazed to hear how valuable it is too – Bonhams reckons the sale could raise £80,000.

Let's hope the money goes to a good cause.

Those of you who were at some of the big festivals this year, WOMAD, Latitude, the Big Chill, Vintage at Goodwood and The Thames festival couldn’t have missed our Save the Rainforest display. In fact thousands of you signed up to become Forest Defenders and had your  pictures taken in front of our Banksy Jungle Book canvas. Banksy kindly redrew the original for us, have a look at the pictures:

Sorry I dont believe you. I was a member of greenpeace at that time and all the material that had been distibuted to local groups was asked not to be used for what we were told was a complaint by Disney. It is because Greenpeace has many attributes of a corporation that i no longer campaign for you ie centrally dominated and undemocratic and it would appear that untruthful would be another

Thanks for your comment, we used Banksy's Disney designs - you probably did too - in stencils etc around the country and then recalled them (as we often do) when we thought the campaign had run its course and any value in continuing would be less than the risk from big money lawyers.

The Times article was suggesting that we never used it - that's why we dug out this pic from 2002.

dear "anonymous 44"

sorry to hear you no longer campaign for greenpeace, it is a shame really because that deluded cynical backstabbing attitude is just the kind of language that these big corporations really listen to and I am sure greenpeace would never have won huge victories against the likes of Nestlé or Mcdonalds if you had stayed campaigning for them.

Good luck with the flat earth society.

Mr Anonymous, clearly in it for the wrong reason to begin with. Greenpeace is the largest conservation charity of it's kind. Big enough to cause waves that lead to change. We have deminished the rainforests from 14% of the land surface to a mere 6%. If we carry on allowing it to happen, and our lovely people of the world continue to re produce, we shall literally have not enough oxygen to go around! Hark what's that I hear you say? "Well we shall kill 50% of the worlds animals via extinction from deforestation so we'll breathe their oxygen!" Yes then you exhale!

Sorry James, The stencils in our group were never used. In fact I believe there are thousands still unused in groups in London. The campaign in no way had run its course, it had hardly started. Hi paul. Is Greenpeace democratic .NO. Is Greenpeace centrally dominated. Yes.  It is no answer to either be economical with the truth as James is, or to call truth backstabbing as you are. It is exactly the central domination that enables Greenpeace to attempt this diversion from the truth and you to slavishly accept the Greenpeace version or to believe that anyone who chooses not to campaign for greenpeace is flatearth. Have you ever considered there to be a better way to achieve your aims? Hollyim, you assume wrongly things you dont know about me and also I am trying not continuing to allow environmental devastation to happen even though not campaigning for Greenpeace, and i believe more effectively, and issues more locally which of course is not allowed by Greenpeace.

Why the hate from Greenpeace members?and why do Greenpeace not even mention the illuminati, the real cause of much environmental destruction?
