Skipper Joel Stewart welcomes activists aboard the Rainbow Warrior III

Canary Wharf seemed an incongruous location for our brand new flaghsip action boat, but there she was, moored in the belly of the financial beast, mast lights twinkling in the twilight.

Rainbow Warrior III is not just built to the highest environmentally sustainable specifications, she is also a vessel of magnificent and graceful beauty.

After a welcome by Greenpeace UK director John Sauven and the man with possibly the coolest job in the world, Captain Joel Stewart, we had an instructive tour around the upper deck taking in the glossily high-tech bridge.

Before the activist tour some 3,000 supporters queued for up to an hour to visit the ship. John said, "I apologised for the length of the wait, however, someone replied that it was fine as they had been waiting for 12 years to get on board!"
