2010 Thames festival (and others) update

Posted by Richard Martin - 17 September 2010 at 10:40am - Comments

Over the weekend of the 11th and 12th September Greenpeace Active Supporters, staff and Face to Face Fundraisers were all active during the Thames Festival which took place on London's South Bank. In the shadow of City Hall and the Tower of London we erected our colourful forest-themed Greenpeace display stand.

The teams, comprising of volunteers from across the 12 London networks, worked hard to engage with festival goers about deforestation and palm oil issues, encouraging them to sign up as ‘Forest Defenders' and have their photo taken in the stand's ‘picture frame' against the background of a Jungle Book canvas art worked by Banksy.

This was the last outing this year for the famous Banksy exhibit, which also visited Latitude, WOMAD, The Big Chill and Vintage at Goodwood and helped us to sign up over 3,000 new ‘Forest Defenders'. Huge thanks to all the fantastic Active Supporter teams who took part, and a special thank-you to folk from Bethnal Green and Southwark for co-ordinating volunteers on the day - you were all an inspiration and essential to our success!
