BP has learned little from its experience in the Gulf of Mexico

Last summer the Bethnal Green Network and other networks around the country campaigned heavily against BP as part of Greenpeace's campaign Go Beyond Oil. The aim of this campaign was to stop BP destroying the Canadian Boreal Forest by going into the Tar Sands, the oceans through further deepwater drilling and other wilderness in their search for oil.

On April 12th Greenpeace, PLATFORM, FairPensions and London Rising Tide will be co-hosting a public meeting at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road. This event is being held in advance of BP’s AGM which will be taking place on April 14th.

This is a chance to listen to first-hand accounts of how BP's decision to go into the Alberta tar sands will affect indigenous communities, the local environment and the global climate. Hear also how residents of the Gulf have had their livelihoods destroyed by the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe.

This meeting will also be an opportunity to build links between different campaigns and activists and find out what is being done to restrain the destructive activities of one of the world’s oil giants.

The Public Meeting will be held on 12th April at 19h at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA. Please RSVP to info@no-tar-sands.org.
