Birmingham Climate Change Festival
Birmingham Climate Change Festival
We decided to have another go at the Tar Sands campaign after last weeks failed attempt. This weekend couldn't have gone any better, the sun was shining and we happened to be out campaigning on the same day as the Birmingham Climate Change Festival. We thought it would be a good idea to get as close as we could or even gatecrash it in order to engage with people at the festival as we've found that generally people at these events are more likely to stop and listen to what we've got to say. We went with the gatecrash option and had a successful few hours talking to people about the Tar Sands, many of whom didn't know what the Tar sands are or that BP could possibly be thinking about investing in one of the most destructive industrial projects on the planet after what it has done in the Gulf of Mexico. We eventually managed to talk our way into getting an official stall and gazebo at the festival which had other stalls offering advice about energy saving, recycling and solar panels. Other organisations like Friends of the Earth where there as well as a solar powered stage.
