An 'exclusive' panel of judges spent a couple of hours this weekend pouring over the entries to our local Flag for the Future competition. The local competition attracted over 125 submissions and these were displayed at the Save the Arctic weekend staged at The Parlour Showrooms by Bristol East Greenpeace at the end of last month. The international competition comes to a close on 27th February and aims to find a winning design that will reflect the themes of Peace, Hope and Global Community. It will be lowered down to the bed of the Arctic Ocean in a time capsule along with over 2.6 million names of people from all around the world who have signed online to call for the Arctic to be declared a global sanctuary.
However, in the meantime we have found our worthy local winners and the task was not easy in selecting two winners and two runner-up designs. And so the winners are.... drum roll ...
Primary School age range - Winner: Lara Daszkiewcz - aged 9. Runner up: Daisy Brown - aged 9 from the 29th St Annes Brownie group.
Secondary School age range - Winner. Hannah Cole - aged 11. Runner ups: Alisha Marie Georgiou - aged 12. Special mention: Loren Searle - aged 12. All from Chew Valley School.
Many thanks to Lauren, Paul, Carol, Mark, Claire, Leo and Robin for their deliberations in finding our local winners. All entries will now be sent up to London in time to meet the deadline for the International competition. The final design will be selected by a panel of judges led by British Fashion Designer and campaigner, Vivienne Westwood. Will the winning entry come from Bristol? We will let you know!
there's still time to enter the International competition. Download the flag template and details at http://www.wagggs.org/en/flagforthefuture and get your entry in by Wednesday 27th February. Good Luck!
