On Monday I was one of a group of Greenpeace activists who visited Centrica in Windsor. As it happened, another high-profile visitor was in Windsor that day – the Queen! I didn’t bump into her as I spent 9 hours locked to a large gas bill in front of the side doors of Centrica.
Centrica has invested the least in renewable energy sources of the big six utilities while making the biggest profits from customers. Its terrible record of energy investment is keeping hard-pressed households hooked on expensive, imported gas.
My colleague and I spent an early three hours on the chilly, shady side of the Centrica office, but then we swapped to a sunnier spot where we stayed for another six hours until close of business at about 5pm.
As Centrica had shut down their office for the day and sent all staff home, there weren’t any staff to whom we could explain our campaign. We ended up playing “I Spy” for surely a world-record duration of 6 hours.
We certainly didn’t spy a certain person beginning with Q who was apparently meeting and greeting at the castle and the guildhall and didn’t make it as far as the outskirts.
But we did spy a lot of BBs:
Q: I spy with my little eye something beginning with BB.
A: Big Bills!
