A Mighty Fine Boat Indeed
Sue and I had an interesting day out in London on Saturday. The focus of our journey was the Rainbow Warrior but we decided to pop in on OccupyLSX on our way across town. We only had an hour to spare, but we talked to a few of the residents and found them to be thoughtful and articulate in voicing their concerns.
Our campaign focus lies more directly with environmental concerns so the Warrior called and we whizzed over to Canary Wharf. The public tours had just finished so South Quay was packed with Rainbow Warrior-stickered folk. Apparently over 3000 people had visited the boat that day, and some people had been keen enough to queue for over one hour!
Once all had assembled on the helipad, GPUK Executive Director John Sauven gave a pep talk about current campaigns then Ship’s Captain Joel Stewart spoke about technical aspects of the ship.
The tour of the boat took in the upper decks, the hi-tech bridge and the large broom cupboard into which, apparently, a helicopter can be squeezed.
Rainbow Warrior III showcases green shipbuilding technologies and, from a landlubber's perspective, she is a mighty fine boat indeed.
