Last week a few of Greenpeace went to see a documentary “To Save the Whale”  by Gavin Newman, a stills and video photographer who does a lot of work with Greenpeace.

“To Save the Whale” is not a Greenpeace-produced film but a film by Gavin that tries to give the background and broader picture about life on a Greenpeace boat, Esperanza, whilst trying to impede Japanese whaling boats in the Antarctic.

The film is hard-hitting, as it includes footage of minke whales ripping themselves apart trying to free themselves from grenade harpoons embedded in their backs.

Although some parts of the film are difficult to watch, it is definitely recommended if you want to understand some of the issues around whaling.
