Our Greenpeace stalls were certainly more eye-catching than usual this weekend as we had a life-sized Stormtrooper in attendance!
On Saturday lunchtime we were outside the The Prom on Gloucester Road, Bishopston with our gentleman Stormtrooper and on Sunday afternoon we were up on the Totterdown Arts Trail with our lady Stormtrooper.
Kids and grown-ups were keen to be photographed with this iconic figure so it was a great opportunity to provide some background on our campaign. Volkswagen is opposing EU laws that would require the car manufacturing industry to adopt a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2020 - see http://www.vwdarkside.com
On Saturday our stall on the Gloucester Road got some attention from the Evening Post photographer who was covering a big local story about a Costa protest down the road. Perhaps we’ll make it into the paper if they’re short of news on Monday! We also got signatures from dignitaries who were en route including local councillors. Our MP however could not be induced to sign.
On Sunday, the Arts Trail was very busy and our popular Stormtrooperess had little time to appreciate the fabulous art, crafts and performances on show: http://www.frontroom.org.uk/
The Bishopston Bunch (Ian, Stacey, Loz, Lauren, Carol, Paul) collected 150 signed campaign cards. Team Totterdown (Richard L, Tash, Sue, Greg, Richard, Cordelia, Ian again - he’s KEEN!) collected 257 signed cards. After getting 407 cards signed, and despite a mid-afternoon dash to the copy shop, we ran out of supplies.
Anyway stormtrooping is a tiring business so after a couple of hours our excellent colleagues Paul & Tash had well earned a rest.

Here’s a short video of Stormtrooper Paul meeting and greeting on the Gloucester Road (slightly surreal): http://youtu.be/kL_6AKcL-CY
