Greenpeace Camden at the 'Coal Kills' Vigil with Miliband

Posted by Neil Jones - 15 September 2009 at 10:02pm - Comments

Members of the Camden Greenpeace Group went to the Vigil at the Department of Energy and Climate Change on Monday 14 September, along with supporters of Oxfam, Christian Aid, WeCAN, WDM and the RSPB.  And Ed Miliband came down to meet them!

Activists were there to remind Ed that the government's current proposals are not good enough - No new coal fired power stations should be built unless they can guarantee ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the carbon will be captured.

As the public consultation closed, Olga, Ardiana and Laura were there to tell Ed that he must be bold and show the world that Britain is prepared to lead the way in turning our backs on dirty coal. He was reminded that if he chooses to build Kingsnorth 2, he will be responsible for 20,000 climate refugees, and contribute to the loss of many species of animal and plant life across the globe.

Miliband knows that renewable sources can give us the clean energy we need.  The science is proven.  Now he has to make the bold decision and commit us to a positive future, not dinosaur power stations of the past.

Have a look at Olga's video - it looks like Ed still needs some convincing!
