1. Dates for diaries
This is the biggie: Wednesday 28th July, meet 11am for briefing then campaign 12noon - 2pm, Tar Sands BP campaign: Camden group’s date to take our ‘no tar sands’ posters with all of those messages from the public to BP’s London headquarters near Piccadilly. This Saturday 17th July: not a main campaigning date but there are a few options if you’re looking for something to do!
(a) Walthamstow Greenpeace group would like a few volunteers to help out with their BP campaigning plus visit to local BP garage with banner. Contact Dave if you can help daveocarroll@hotmail.com
(b) Camden Green Summit, Saturday 17th July, 10am - 3pm, Parliament Hill School, 140 Highgate Road, NW5 1RL - all about definining and achieving Camden’s vision for a low carbon, sustainable place by 2030. I have registered a place but can’t actually go, so if you want to go let me know and I’ll forward you the details - and also they’ve kindly said we can put some of our campaign mateirals on the registration desk so if you’re going great if you can take a handful with you. Saturday 31st July: our local campaigning date this month: a nice chilled-out afternoon by Camden Lock on BP and Tar Sands, 12noon - 3pm. Contact Neil or Laura if you can make it.
Ongoing for weekdays in July: groups from all over the UK are taking thier no tar sands banners to BP’s headquarters. Great if you can pop down at lunchtime or late afternoon even just to say hello or help out for half an hour. List of dates at the bottom of this note. Or contact Neil or Laura for more info. Lobbying training: How to get your MP onside with Greenpeace campaigns and become their best friend who they turn to when they want to ask someone how to vote in Parliament! Next training date is 21st August in Birmingham, and there will be a London date in September TBC so fill out an application if you’re interested - contact lobbying@uk.greenpeace.org
TBC a stall at the London Permaculture Festival on Sunday 22nd August at Cecil Sharpe House in Camden. Our local Greenpeace presence will provide a postive juxtaposition to workshops on matters such as ‘making a notebook out of recycled envelopes’. Less facetiously, it’ll be a great day with loads of likeminded lovely people...

London skilshare: generally a great day, great food, useful workshops from knots to political lobbying.

And the massive campaign success to stop HSBC to stop investing in rainforest destruction, following hot on the heels of the victory ending Nestle’s sourcing of palm oil from companies who’re illegally logging the Indonesian rainforets. Tar Sands: London groups day of action - anyone fancy writing a blog post on this one!?! As ever Camden Group (plus John from Canterbury) got the most letters to BP signed. Not that it’s meant to be a competitive endeavour but we do have a reputation to uphold :-)

There's an old joke that you can walk into any bar in Vancouver and find somebody claiming to be a Greenpeace founder. If that somebody had been Jim Bohlen, however, then this claim would have been absolutely true.
