Fracking: The New Fools Gold coming to Wales

Posted by NigelBaker - 6 April 2012 at 11:42am - Comments
Areas of Wales could become like this...

A list has been published of potential sites for shale gas extraction (fracking) which includes many sites across Wales. Fracking involves fracturing the rocks in order to extract the last traces of fossil fuel from deposits underground. Activities in Tar Sands in Canada have shown all too clearly the impact of fracking on the natural environment. Although hailed by some as an energy breakthrough it is in reality the resource equivalent of an alcoholic boiling up their carpet to get the last dregs of spilt alcohol. It should be described as the new 'fools gold'. Just as in the days of gold rushes when prospectors thought they had struck it lucky and all they really found was worthless rock, so all todays extraction companies are really doing is just prolonging our dependency on fossil fuels whilst thinking they've solved our energy problems.
Renewables and energy efficiency are the solution and can meet our energy needs in a virtually pollution free way. Time we got them working not fracking...
