Talk by John Littlewood to blind people at an East Dulwich residential home.

Posted by Richard Griffiths - 2 March 2012 at 12:17pm - Comments

John gave an interesting talk to around eight blind people at Bradbury Oak House in East Dulwich yesterday. The talk was based around British native trees and their uses. It was well received by all and we all learnt useful information about the wood from these trees. For me, knowing that British Lime trees have properties that helped you sleep was the key point but there was much discussion about making charcoal in the local woods either for fuel or for drawing. It really came home to me how incredidibly difficult it is for 'the blind' to educate themselves not being able to read or write. They do compensate through their sense of touch and smell but this doesn't make up for their lack of sight.

I'm sure they all appreciated John's talk very much indeed.
