We've all seen many types of campaign and information stalls in various public places around Edinburgh: often on Princes Street, sometimes at Wellington's statue or at the Mound. But at the top of Arthur's Seat? Well, on Sunday 12 June, inspired by the eccentric sport of "Extreme Ironing", a few keen volunteers did actually port our carefully-wind-proofed Edinburgh Greenpeace stall to the summit of Arthur's Seat. Yes, Arthur's Seat! That's the hill which, we'd like to remind you, towers over the city at an impressive altitude of 251m.
Unlike most stalls, we weren't really expecting or even hoping to meet dozens of people and tell them about our latest campaigns. This stall was more about having a fun day out and taking some great photos. Check out that view over Edinburgh! We also provided bananas to bemused walkers who didn't expect to find us there. And of course, we did meet a few lovely people who were interested to hear about our tuna campaign, the new Rainbow Warrior, and Barbie's dirty secret. Or perhaps they were just after our bananas.
We think this is probably a one-off stall, and we're unlikely to push our definition of "extreme" Greenpeace Stalling much further. However, if another group attempts to outdo this stall with something more eccentric, well ... who knows where we'd go next?
Overall, this was a most enjoyable Sunday summer afternoon!
