...was a blogpost from Kumi Naidoo on the GP international site, in which he endorses the Occupy movement and encourages others to get involved.
GP USA is directly involved with Occupy Wall St. They've provided the solar truck “Rolling Sunlight” to help power the OWS media centre.
But here in the UK, GP hasn't uttered as much as a squeak about what's going on in London and elsewhere. For reasons best known to themselves, the Kumi post wasn't published on the GP UK website.
I'm sure - like myself - GP supporters all over are right behind the Occupy movement. There are groups around the UK, including here in Glasgow.
Here in Glasgow, protesters have agreed to relocate to Kelvingrove park at the weekend.
In Edinburgh, STV Edinburgh is planning a live online debate on Friday at 12.30pm with Occupy Edinburgh protesters. If you have a question you'd like to ask the Occupy Edinburgh protesters email it to us on edinburgh@stv.tv.
Barry - Greenpeace UK has a long history of supporting grassroots groups and protests (with aligned agendas) with logistical support, campaign advice, training, media support (online and offline) and anything else we can do to help.
The posistion is that we do this because it's the right thing to do, not because we want the credit. Equally we can't campaign on everything, we don't always have all of the right answers and er we provide such support, to aligned initiatives, because we can. What we tend not to do is to overly publicise this support as we don't want to be seen muscling in on what is an organic grassroots movement, and the Greenpeace 'brand' tends to dominate the argument.
In the US the folk at Occupy Wall Street decided to publicise the support Greenpeace US had given the protests. It would seem plausible that something similar might happen here, or there again it might not. The strength of the movement is in what's happening, not in who may (or may not) be providing some support.
