Thames Array wind farm

Posted by Richard Martin - 30 July 2009 at 2:36pm - Comments

The Thames Array is a proposed 1000MW offshore windfarm situated in the Thames Estuary between Margate in Kent and Clacton in Essex, which now has the finance and the green light to go ahead.

With the first electricity expected to come on stream in 2012, the Thames Array will hopefully be the first of a number of such projects, demonstrating a very viable alternative to proposed new coal fired power stations at Kingsnorth (total 1600MW) or existing nuclear power stations such as Dungeness B (1100MW(approx)).

Large scale wind projects could generate thousands of UK jobs, and along with other renewable energy solutions will make an important contribution to UK energy security, without investing in redundant technologies such as coal and nuclear.

The futures bright, the futures green....
