On Saturday Liverpool had a close encounter of the stormtrooper kind when we took to the streets with the VW campaign for the first time.
Getting the stormtrooper into his kit proved interesting and provided some amusement to passers by , but we got there in the end and got on with some serious public engagement.
The costume provided plenty of interest and we soon had people wanting to have their photos taken with our stormtrooper , which gave us an opportunity to sign them up to the campaign. It is a real pity that we are not allowed to collect money as a condition of our permit for the stall as we could have done well from donations for the photo opportunity.
We managed to collect 150 signed cards in a couple of hours with help from 2 new members of our group Amy and Bob , who had come along for the first time to help, and Gene one of our regular stalwarts . A special mention has to go to Dave , our stormtrooper , who braved the cold to help us.
We will be out in Liverpool again in a couple of weeks with the VW campaign , but sadly without the stormtrooper costume which is on its way to another local group for next weekend.
