On the 4th and 5th of March four intrepid volunteers represented Greenpeace at the Environment Fair held in Dumfries, The focus of our stall was to raise money for the newest Rainbow warrior which will soon be on the high seas protecting precious environments and species. As you can see from the picture this gave us the excuse to bring out the paints, which gave the children an opportunity to express themselves.
We also talked to people about the Energy bill and gave them the chance to send the go beyond oil postcards to their MP's, this was a very successful exercise as we ended up with over 120 signed postcards, which are now heading towards the relevant MP.
I found the people of Dumfries & Galloway to be very friendly and welcoming, for the most part there was a lot of concern about our environment and planet. Most of the other stall holders felt that it was important for Greenpeace to be present at the event, with some expressing a need for a local group. Hopefully this will happen soon as there where quite a few people who signed up to receiving our updates. There seems to be strong opposition against wind farms in the area, some of this opposition is a result of the environmental issues that arise when wind turbines are installed for example effects to peat moor land and river water quality.
